Paint Party Friday May 24th, 2013

Hello Dear Paint Party Friday Friends.  I've been busy, busy in the studio the last couple of weeks so I have bunches of work to share with you.

I create two types of commissioned art.  My main stay is my torn paper pet portraits.  It's been a fantastic year I have more work than I can fit in, which for a professional artist is a very good problem to have!  I wish I was able to work faster but the intricate work takes mucho time.   I had lots of forward progress in my art career this last couple of weeks.  I was asked if I wanted be featured by a nationally distributed art magazine for next year and was asked to join a really fabulous group of online art instructors to teach my process.   I was definitely doing happy dances!  I have several pieces to share this week.
The other style of commission art I do is digital paintings (if you're curious about my process you can find more details here http://robinpanzerart.blogspot.com/p/digitally-painted-pet-art-portraits.html )

Torn Paper Works in Progress, both pictures are the same cow just sitting on different surfaces :

Ruby's Eye - Commission Pet Portrait in Progress
Here's a photo of the development of  an eye for one of my torn paper portraits:
Picture 1. (Left) The created eye 2. (Middle) Checking eye I created against ruby's photo 3. The eye I created on    top of photo to check for accuracy before I move it over to the piece I'm creating...Yep it's a spot match, don't cha think? Eye Ingredients: Torn Vermillion Paper, a bit of Alcohol Inks to get the color match, White Gel for eye lights, Crystal Lacquer for that wet look.

Ruby's Nose - Commission Pet Portrait in Progress
The nose I've created from paper for Ruby's portrait next to her photograph. By George I think I've got it! I'm in the studio today working on Ruby's portrait. I finished many of the elements of her portrait but the nose has taken me several tries as she has very distinctive colors in her nose. I've tinted and colored and speckled the light brown paper you see under the pens/markers with blacks and browns and grays to match her nose but the final elements that got me to the finish line were the pink, white and silver speckled in to get that sparkly look her nose has.

Ruby in Torn Paper 3/4's complete
and Here's Ruby's pet portrait as far as I've completed her as of today.  She's coming along nicely and I should have a finished piece to show you next week.

Tallula's Portrait
Another piece I worked on and completed this week was a commissioned painting of a sweet 4 year old named Tallula

Paint Party Friday April 26th

In a flurry this week but I've planned some time to get around and visit my Paint Party Friday friends.

Here is my most recent hand torn paper pet portrait "Jack"  the client wished for him to be in the Pop Art style.  He was memorial for her sweetheart.  Jack passed while he was away serving his country and was a large piece of his heart.   They received the piece and this is the message I received today....It made me tear up!

From the Gift Recipient:

Thank you so much for Jack! I think you captured his soul.

and from the client:

He cried when he saw your portrait of Jack.

These are the moments that artist live for IMHO.

Thanks for Stopping by for Paint Party Friday!  Can't wait to see what you're up to.

Paint Party Friday April 12th, 2013

Thanks for stopping by for Paint Party Friday!   I'm always so happy to visit with my PPF friends to see what wonderful art is being created and I receive great joy sharing what's on my studio table for the week with you all.

Here is a commission I completed recently, it was 4 pieces for a gallery in Pittsburgh that sells my custom torn paper pet portraits to their clients.  They specialize in framing so they purchase from me and then sell to their client a lovely framed finished product.

I'm having a contest on my Facebook Studio page to choose a background for my newest piece.  Come check it out. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Robin-Panzer-Art-Studio-33/231107300246708  Random winner will receive a set of 4 X 6 Postcard prints.

I feel blessed and fortunate that my torn paper pet portraits have become so popular.  I've completely booked for 2013 here are some of the pups I'll be working on throughout the year
I have a few more to add to the photo log here for a total of 17 commissions to complete in 2013.   The top row is complete.  Right now I'm working on Jack

The first thing I create when doing a pet portrait are the pets eyes and nose. I think accuracy in this area is so important to capturing your pet's personality and even more important when creating pop art style pets. Here I'm working on Jack's eyes and nose. You can see in the second photo when they are done and sitting toward the bottom of the portrait that they don't look like much of anything. To see if I've gotten them just right I set them on top of the photo, if they blend seamlessly then I am ready to add them to the torn paper portrait I am creating. After an hour and half I'm very pleased with the results of the eyes and nose I created for Jack they blend well when placed on the photo for comparison YAY!

Thanks for stopping by to pay a visit for Paint Party Friday!  I can't wait to see what you are up to!
